Key Points
Ronin has entered a new era. In October, Ronin Validators voted to adopt Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to serve as our network’s canonical cross-chain infrastructure. Today, CCIP went LIVE on Ronin and the migration of existing assets from the legacy bridge to Chainlink CCIP has begun!
Bridge lanes between Ronin and Ethereum as well as Ronin and Base are also now available. This alliance introduces the highest standard of cross-chain security to Ronin, delivering top protocols the peace of mind they need to deploy on a permissionless Ronin. Here’s what that means for our movement:
Over the past year, Ronin became the fastest-growing gaming blockchain in the world. Industry leaders from Coinbase to Pixels chose to join our movement because they align with our mission and recognize our relentless pursuit of a secure, decentralized onchain ecosystem – fueled by gaming. Our alliance with Chainlink is a natural next step. CCIP is the standard for cross-chain interoperability, offering the highest levels of security available. Step by step, Ronin is aligning itself with top protocols in preparation for the next level of growth.
Base is the #1 Ethereum Layer 2 by Total Value Locked (TVL), and serves millions of Coinbase users around the world. The new Ronin-to-Base bridge lane makes it easier than ever for these users to discover and explore Ronin’s ecosystem. CCIP reinforces the connective tissue between our movements, bringing builders closer to countless Web3 users.
The CCIP bridge lanes between Ethereum and Ronin as well as Base and Ronin are now LIVE. Users can now transfer select tokens between these ecosystems. This also lays a foundation to enable more lanes to even more chains. By the end of January, Chainlink CCIP will replace all of the current functions of the legacy bridge on Ronin. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
• Anyone can now transfer the LINK token between Ethereum and Ronin using CCIP
• If users want to transfer other ERC-20 or ERC-721 tokens between Ronin and Ethereum, they must use the legacy bridge until the end of January 2025
• At the end of January 2025, CCIP will serve as the canonical cross-chain infrastructure to transfer assets between Ronin and Ethereum, as well as Ronin and Base
Ronin is entering a new, more open era – and builders from all corners of our industry will soon be able to build on our network. Games. DeFi protocols. dApps. The possibilities are endless. The launch of Chainlink CCIP on Ronin makes it possible to welcome a new generation of missionaries to our digital nation. Let’s keep pushing.
