Today, we welcome the CyberKongz to Ronin in a homecoming celebration that will be remembered for years to come. On July 27th at 12 pm EST, the CyberKongz will host a public mint of their Genkai collection through Ronin’s Mavis Market. This is the first-ever NFT mint on Ronin and we’re honored to welcome these new allies to our digital nation. There’s a lot to cover, so buckle up and let’s dig in!
Mint Overview
The mint will take place through the Mavis Market (link) at 12 PM EST on July 27th. There will be a total of 20,000 Genkai NFTs available: 16,000 on Ethereum and 3,000 on Ronin. All Genkai traits will be revealed within two weeks after the mint is over.
There’s a special benefit for the Genkai on Ronin: exclusive traits inspired by samurai aesthetics and Axie traits! In the future, Genkai trait upgrading will happen on Ronin. Additionally, CyberKongz will be working with Ronin to develop a game featuring Genkai. More details will be shared on this game over time, as development progresses. Note that 939 of the Ronin Genkai NFTs will be gifted to Mystic Axie holders, and 7,000 of the Ethereum Genkai will be airdropped to current CyberKongz holders. These airdrops will be subject to a lock period of 180 days. The Mystic Axie snapshot was taken on July 24th at 1pm UTC.
We’re also celebrating the CyberKongz Genkai mint on Ronin with the Ronin x Genkai Gacha Quest. Anyone, anywhere will have the chance to win prizes including FREE Genkai NFTs, Japanese axies, RON tokens, and more. You’ll be able to complete social quests by connecting your wallet and social accounts to earn points, which you can redeem for Gacha rolls and many chances to win. This is a great way for Lunacians to participate in this moment whether they mint a Genkai NFT or not. More info coming soon!
What this means for Ronin
The Genkai mint represents Ronin opening our borders to Web3-native communities beyond Axie Infinity. Today, the entire NFT space has their eyes on us. We want to use this moment to drive home three key points:
- Ronin is the best place to launch gaming-centric NFT collections of all kinds.
- On the Mavis Market, we have a protocol enforced royalty because our validator set does not allow the deployment of NFT marketplaces that would create a race to the bottom for royalties, something we’ve seen to be so dangerous for creator sustainability on other chains.
- If you’re a RON holder, the Genkai mint is an opportunity to expand Ronin’s network effect and increase the utility of the RON token.

Another exciting aspect of this union is that CyberKongz will be migrating Play & Kollect, their on-chain gaming experience for VX Kongz, from Polygon to Ronin. At current network conditions, players are projected to experience 10x cheaper transactions due to this migration.

Who are the CyberKongz?
The year was 2021, and Ronin was less than a month old. Most of the world had never even heard of NFTs, but a bull run of epic proportions was bubbling beneath the surface. One day, on March 3rd, the artist Myoo minted the initial collection of Genesis CyberKongz and they found homes in the wallets of many early NFT adopters. This was the beginning of a powerful community that would go on to influence our industry for years to come.
Over the following months, the CyberKongz would introduce and popularize innovative NFT on-chain and cultural mechanics including:
- The earliest popular example of NFT staking through Genesis Kongz & $BANANA, with a breeding mechanic where Genesis Kongz could breed Baby Kongz using $BANANA tokens
- “They introduced ERC721x, a smart contract developed to enable the convenience of using a hot wallet, while having the security of a cold wallet.” - Wale
- The first holder’s alpha group “Wall Street Kongz”
- An on-chain game called Play & Kollect, an on-chain idle adventure game with tokens and NFTs as rewards— this experience will be migrated from Polygon to Ronin as gas costs for players are projected to be 10x less expensive
By October of 2021, the CyberKongz set a world record for the highest floor price of an NFT collection: 210 ETH! In many ways, they paved the way for other notable projects and continue to push the boundaries of blockchain technology today. Our Shared History
This is the first time our two communities are coming together, but it’s also the beginning of a powerful partnership rooted in a shared DNA. In 2018, the Axie founders met in the CryptoKitties Discord server. The energy was electric, ideas were flowing fast, and CyberKongz dev @OwlOfMoistness was right there in the trenches.
Owl
On August 6th, 2018, Owl joined the Axie Discord. He would go on to build Discord bots in our server and onboard many of our earliest community members. Check out this community spotlight about Owl from 2020.
Coco
@Coco__Bear was another Kong who shaped Axie’s destiny. In fact, Axie would likely not exist without Coco. He funded most of the entire Origins sale by buying half of the supply, and has since become a Ronin validator. He even owns the Agamogenesis axie Hauteclere, which we use as our basketball team Trilogy’s logo!
Clumsier
Clumsier used to breed axies to give to other communities, facilitating the first large-scale user acquisition campaign in NFTs. Free-to-own NFTs all the way back in 2018. Together with Coco, Clumsier laid the foundation for the Axie Builder’s Program by building Axie Sushi in 2019.
Today, we’re proud to count the CyberKongz among our oldest allies, and we’re thrilled to add one more strand of shared DNA:
Genkai.
Fun fact: CyberKongz council members @Coco__Bear and Clumsier helped Sky Mavis build Axie Sushi in 2019. Today, Coco and Owl help secure the Ronin network as validators. We’ve been building together for years now.
Final Thoughts
We’re thrilled to welcome Genkai onto Ronin, and to celebrate this special moment with one of our oldest allies. On July 27th, mint a Genkai and bring our two sister communities together.
This is also an experiment where we are leaning in towards our web3 roots. We’ve heard the community clamoring for more web3 native brands and communities on Ronin— we think CyberKongz are the perfect fit for our first foray in this direction.
